VICI award for Van der Velden

Netherlands Heart Institute professor Jolanda van der Velden has received and NWO VICI award.

We are happy to announce that NL-HI Professor Jolanda van der Velden (VUmc) received a VICI Award for her project Battling toxic protein in inherited cardiac disease: Inherited cardiac disease is caused by a toxic protein. We have strong indications that the toxic protein triggers an energy deficit in the heart which causes cardiac disease and sudden death. This project will establish key pathomechanisms triggered by the energy deficit leading to novel therapeutic approaches to treat disease.

The VICI award is €1.5 million.

The other cardiovascular scientist awarded a VICI is Gijs van Soest of the ErasmusMC.
