Change of the board of the Netherlands Heart Institute

After almost four years, Dirk Jan Duncker said farewell to his position as board member of the Netherlands Heart Institute. Dirk Jan was involved in setting up the Dutch CardioVascular Alliance (DCVA) and also very concerned with our institute. We would like to thank Dirk Jan for his effort and we wish him all the best in his new role as ambassador of the Netherlands Heart Institute.

We are proud to inform you that Wouter Jukema has taken over the position of  co-director/board member from Dirk Jan Dunker. J. Wouter Jukema, is professor of Cardiology, past Established Clinical Investigator at the Netherlands Heart Foundation and is Chairman of “Leiden Vascular Medicine” at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) in the Netherlands. He started his PhD research with the Angiographic Coronary Atherosclerosis Trial REGRESS in 1992 at the Interuniversity Cardiology Institute of the Netherlands (ICIN) the predecessor of the current Netherlands Heart Institute (NL-HI).  He is also founding director of the Durrer Center for Cardiogenetic Research in Amsterdam and was member of her scientific advisory board of the ICIN/NL-HI for many years. Thus for sure he is not new to the NL-HI!

His current interests, which comprise the majority of topics for his more than 1000 peer reviewed publications (with many in top journals like NEJM, Lancet, Science, Nature, Circulation, JACC and EHJ) focus on the field of athero-thrombosis and include interventional cardiology as well as atherosclerosis research (vascular biology, lipid modification, diabetes, anti-thrombotics/anti-platelets and genetics) in humans as well as in transgenic animals. Prof. Jukema is principal investigator in several large interventional/athero-thrombosis studies, a member of various (inter)national athero-thrombosis boards and is holder of multiple (a.o. EU) grants.

So we welcome him in his new function at the NL-HI with the same enthousiam that he always expressed to us in the past!
